Long-term, I expect NATO to shrink as a shell organization. Keep in mind that all NATO members must regularly update their military paraphernalia in order to keep up with the Yanks... So, in coupla years, Uncle Sam will ask his Euro pals to order some stealth bombers, troop carriers, humvees, etc. AND, AT THE SAME TIME, the French and the Germans will ask their European partners to be compliant with the new Rapid Reaction Force's standards... Get the picture? European countries can't afford to foot BOTH bills!!! Buying military stuff from the US to meet NATO's criteria AND buying military gear from France/UK/Germany/Italy to build up a credible Euro army! Now, guess which alliance will end up on the back burner??
