Ah, so you think the whole point of the exercise is to expand markets for Euro industries -- kinda like an Airbus thing?

Establishing equipment standards among allies is a good thing. Who does the manufacturing is a different subject.

If the French and other Euros want to have different ammo and such, what will they do if they run short. Won't be able to borrow any from the Yanks, will they?

The most obvious example of "buy America" is the F-16. Although several Euros make fine fighter/attack aircraft, most NATO countries are pleased enough to buy F-16s rather than see expansion and concentration of arms industries in Europe. Kind of a balance of power type thing.

Seems to me much of this Euro thing is unified Germany wanting to "be all it can be" and France wanting to be relevant beyond culture/wine/cheese.

As this moves forward, less important Euros will lose enthusiasm, IMO.
