Ballard to supply fuel cells to DaimlerChrysler for 30 buses VANCOUVER, Mar 26, 2001 (The Canadian Press via COMTEX) -- Ballard Power Systems announced Monday that it has signed a deal to supply fuel cells for 30 buses to DaimlerChrysler.
As part of the deal, Ballard will also supply its fuel cell power modules for the buses in 2002 and 2003. Ballard said the fuel cells will be integrated into fuel cell engines by Xcellsis, a company jointly held by DaimlerChrysler, Ford Motor Co. and Ballard.
"The receipt of an order for fuel cells for commercial buses marks a major milestone for Ballard," Firoz Rasul, Ballard's chairman and CEO, said in a statement.
"DaimlerChrysler and its customers in Europe are leading the way in adoption of zero-emission fuel cell technology."
The buses will be delivered to 10 European cities for use in transit service beginning in 2002.
Ballard's shares on the Toronto stock market were off 12 cents to $61.18 on Monday.

Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP chart, msgs)(TSE: BLD. chart, msgs) announced today that it has received a $3.4-million (US$2.2-million) order from Nissan Motor Company for Mark 900 Series Fuel Cell Power Modules and support services.
The BALLARD(R) Mark 900 Series Fuel Cell Power Module incorporates Ballard's latest generation fuel cell stack.
