Akamai Moves Into Japan With Softbank Group TOKYO, JAPAN, 2001 MAR 29 (NB) -- By Adam Creed, Newsbytes. Internet content delivery provider Akamai Technologies Inc. [NASDAQ:AKAM] has enlisted the support of Japanese Internet investments giant Softbank Group for its foray into the Japanese Internet market. A Softbank group company, Softbank Broadmedia Corp., has today formed a joint venture with Akamai in Japan. Akamai Technologies Japan KK will seek and support Japanese customers of Akamai's Internet content delivery services. "We are thrilled to be doing business with the leading player in helping US companies enter the Japanese market," said Akamai Chairman and CEO George Conrades, who joins Softbank President & CEO Masayoshi Son as a founding director of the new company. Akamai says that its customer base in Japan has been growing with hundreds of servers deployed throughout Japanese service provider networks.
