The current P/E of the Russell 1000 Growth index is a lofty 65x, compared to its 21-year average of 20.6x. That disparity looks tame, however, compared with the Russell 2000 Growth’s current stratospheric P/E of 128.2x, relative to its 1979-’99 average of 25x. The current P/E ratios for value stocks, however don’t look markedly different today than they have over the past 21 years…in fact, the smaller-cap Russell 2000 value index is lower today, at 13.6x, than its long-term average of 15.2x.
