Dry etch sales will grow 17.5% in 2001 after surging 70.2% last year, says report

NEW TRIPOLI, Pa. -- Purchases of dry-etch tools for wafer fabs will grow 17.5% to $4.7 billion in 2001 from $4.0 billion in 2000, according to a new market report from The Information Network here. Worldwide revenues for dry-etch systems surged 70.2% last year, according to the report.

Applied Materials Inc. continued to dominate equipment suppliers in dry-etch tools with 38% of the segment's sales in 2000, said the New Tripoli research firm. Lam Research Corp. was second with 27.4% of the dry etch revenues, followed by Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TEL) with 26.1%, said The Information Network.

In 2000, Applied Materials dominated the $850 million silicon etch market, the $1.1 billion metal etch market, and the $2.1 billion dielectric etch market, according to the research firm.
