Mary, this article says mainframes are alive and well. Then they go on to describe jobs being handled by machines that were never called mainframes: Tandems and Unisys boxes. Well, maybe the Unisys machines were called mainframes. So, the Tandem one, with "redundant everything", never down, etc., is the one that Intel based machines won't replace.
