Tim: I may have been over-dramatic, but a recent piece in one of the Texas papers states that the arsenic levels in drinking water Bush is putting on hold means that it reverts back to the old "acceptable" arsenic levels, which was established in the 1950's..

And where still the standards last year.

I hope America isnt known to historians in 100-200 yrs as being in a position to have helped halt environmental damage when there was still time to do so...

I have a different perspective about this. I don't think environmental disaster is just around the corner and has to be averted with dramatic actions. There are ways the environment is getting worse and ways it is getting better. New policies will change the balance on the margin but won't turn the whole world in to either a pristine wilderness or a toxic waste dump.
