Sy, DIGEO is mentioned in several articles today...

News from CHTR regarding their selection of Liberate Technologies interative-TV software (remember my mentioning them in my Digeo research posts?).

Every article today mentions DIGEO, but not a single word about Infospace, and not a single squeak from the INSP press machine. A person would certainly think that if INSP were still involved as a 1/5 partner of Digeo (with Charter, Vulcan), and playing a "key" roll in developing the Digeo portal...INSP would make darn sure to be mentioned somewhere in today's press releases. Seems VERY strange to me. It's not as if INSP couldn't use a little "good news" (of ANY kind) at the moment. :) Very VERY strange, IMO.

Financial terms were not disclosed. But Liberate said the deal with Charter's interactive services provider unit, Digeo Inc., marks the largest commitment by a U.S. cable provider for such services via TV. Charter, the No. 4 U.S. cable TV company, is controlled by Microsoft Corp. co-founder Paul Allen.

Under the agreement, more than 300,000 Charter digital subscribers, starting in St. Louis, will get TV set-top boxes with Liberate's software, allowing them to surf the Net, get video-on-demand, download music, and perform other interactive functions.

"We are excited to work with Charter and Digeo and feel this partnership will serve as a catalyst to move other U.S. cable operators to offer interactive services," said Liberate Chief Executive Mitchell Kertzman in a statement.

"Charter will maintain their industry leadership in the deployment of advanced products by offering its customers compelling interactive television services built around the proven Liberate software platform," said Mitchell Kertzman, CEO of Liberate Technologies. "Their selection of Liberate clearly demonstrates that our proven, open standards-based platform, delivers a solution that cable operators like Charter need now, and are not finding elsewhere."

Mr. Silva said Charter digital customers in St. Louis with Liberate-enabled Motorola DCT5000 set-tops will initially have Internet access, the TV Guide Interactive programming guide, and television-based e-mail and interactive television portal services developed and supported by Digeo,Iinc. Charter customers will also have access to advanced video systems with RealSystem G2 based content through the Liberate TV Navigator(TM) client software.
