I don't think odds are good that we'll get to see 2x166MHz EV6 boards. Current 2x133MHz boards provide more than enough problems as is and with the EV6 bus going the way of the dodo sometime next year, AMD would be wise to focus on getting the Hammer infrastructure in place

EV6 will still be the major AMD platform until 2003 (compare with k6), so it got a whole 21 month before rest. I can't believe there won't be any devellopment in 21 months. At worst Via will do it. If the palomino scales to 2GHz, there will definitely be a need for it.

That's not to say that I would mind a respin of the AMD760, mind you! I definitely think AMD should do this. Likely, they will have learned a thing or two with the 760MP, that could be well incorporated into the 760. And maybe something to make it less sensitive to board component quality, making it cheaper for board makers (and thus consumers). Not that an EV6 board is ever going to get as cheap as a 1x133MHz GTL+ board...

If AMD (or Via) could do a cheaper version of the 760MP, it could have lots of success.
