thanks for the correction, chipset price isn't indeed the real problem. I think cheap "gamer board" as you call it (I would rather call it a cheap workstation board) would have some success among CAD develloppers (say what you want kash and that_crazy_doug rendering is always too long)

As for the Gigabit internet, I agree with you there... we're using a 10 base-T BNC net home and it can be very slow moving stuff like CD images, or even 100MB files. I wouldn't mind it being 100x faster:)
