kash,

Re: low cost 760 MP

Forget low cost 760 MP boards. We first need low cost single processor boards. It is only now, when KT133 boards are becoming obsolete, their prices are approaching $100. The current boards that I would call mainstream (KT133A based) are around $150, and high end - DDR boards are close to $200.

In the past, we kept saying that once we get the volume of the Socket A boards, the prices would drop. Now I think we do have sufficiently high volume, but the prices are still somewhat high. It could be because there are some reports of shortages of certain chipsets, namely KT133A, AMD760 and the SiS chipset, which itself is inexplicable to me since the industry is in the downturn and there is plenty of capacity to make more.

I think the motherboard prices are $30 to $50 too high across the board, compared to Socket 370 prices.

Now, on the Intel side, there are a few Socket 370 Dual boards for about $150. AMD needs something like this. Even $200 would be fine.
