NEW YORK, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Scholastic Consumer Products announces
the invasion of Animorphs, one of the most popular children's book series in
America, written by K.A. Applegate and published by Scholastic Inc. First
published in June l996, Animorphs has been among the top three best-selling
children's book series since October 1996, according to Publishers Weekly, and
has charted as high as #15 on the USA Today Bestseller List. This ground-
breaking franchise from Scholastic will debut as a prime time television show
on Nickelodeon in fall 1998. A comprehensive licensing and consumer
promotions campaign is currently in development in all product categories, it
was announced at this year's industry trade convention, The Licensing Show, by
Leslye Schaefer, senior vice president of marketing and consumer products,
Scholastic Entertainment.
"Animorphs is Scholastic's newest and most exciting property. Kids love
it because of the compelling characters, sci-fi adventures and dramatic story
lines," remarked Schaefer. "Our consumer products team will transform this
property into a must-have licensing opportunity with a visually exciting
merchandising and consumer promotions campaign starting in the fall of 1998,
and a major rollout anticipated in 1999."
Animorphs is the ongoing story of five teenagers who must save the world
from an alien invasion and still get their homework done. Empowered with the
capacity to transform into any animal they touch, the teens must use their
knowledge and newly acquired supernatural abilities to outsmart a sinister
force that is greater than anything the world has ever seen. It is through
these experiences that the characters achieve such noble virtues as bravery,
heroism, loyalty and respect for nature's creatures. Animorphs is an
inspiring combination of fantasy, science-fiction and action-adventure,
targeting boys and girls ages 9-13.
There are seven Animorphs titles currently available, in addition to a new
Megamorphs special edition. Beginning in July 1997, Scholastic will publish a
new Animorphs book each month. The Animorphs web site, located at
scholastic.com, features up to date information on all of
the books, special contests and free downloads.
