I guess Greenspan got what he wanted. When he attacked the markets last year, one of his weapons was to tighten the availability of credit for purchases of stocks. There are many reasons which might explain the total collapse of these tech stocks and margin allowance might very well be the primary reason.

I was just informed by TD Waterhouse that they were instructed by the SEC to reduce margin allowance for JDSU to 50% from 70%. This means that investors suddenly overnight millions of investors are undermargin. Either they raise more cash or they get squeezed out. It seems that a lot of them are getting the squeeze of their life. Thank you once again Mr. Greenspan.
