Clark Westmont's report is extremely negative, and he might be right. He has a 12 month target of $12.50. C-Cube will only represent 10% of LSI's sales. Even if it grows next year, it won't have much impact on total LSI sales.........

RESEARCH ALERT-Salomon cuts 2001/2002 EPS view for LSI Logic
NEW YORK, March 30 (Reuters) - Salomon Smith Barney analyst Clark Westmont said on Friday he was cutting his full year 2001 and 2002 earnings outlook for chipmaker LSI Logic Corp. (NYSE:LSI - news) and lowering his 12-month price target to $12.50 from $20.

Westmont said in a research note he was now expecting a fiscal 2001 loss of 24 cents a share versus a profit of 14 cents, and cutting his fiscal 2002 earnings view to a profit of 5 cents from a profit of 34 cents.

``Recent commentary from most industry sources indicates that business conditions remain on a steep downward slope, including the outlook for the coming three months,'' Westmont wrote.

Since virtually all of LSI's sales are derived from communications and storage applications, he said, it is at the intersection of two markets with the deepest deceleration.

Shares of LSI Logic closed at $16.45 on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday.
