Sorry, I'm a novice so maybe this is a stupid question. If one was a Martian, landing on Japan first, one would guess that the primary metabolic activity is through the cell phone. The substances ingested in the mouth are secondary in importance. This is expecially true for teen-agers. However, I simply don't understand where the world wide boom in data transmission via cell phone will come from. The data comes from organization to organization. Both ends of course are wired. They will enjoy in the future optical connections. Where does that leave the wireless facilities? QCOM is indeed the gorilla here, but it looks a bit like a fringe thing. Voice via cell phone is not a fringe thing, I understand that. But everybody is saying "Wait till we get 3G and data transmission!!!" . My question is who of importance will need such a thing? How could it compete with wired transmission?
