Yeah I heard this stuff about Ni-Co laterites. Sherritt's got some great experience with their laterite in Cuba, but others seem to have a tough time making them work. Processing laterite deposits has always been very energy intensive operations. Their leverage to energy costs makes Fortune's Nico (next to a hydroelectric facility) look attractive.

I understand that the Congo cobalt production is at risk again. Appears that the perpetual war is heating up again. Then again the National Post reports today that 100 or so armed Uruguayan troops have arrived to provide UN support for the peace process. Makes you feel comfortable yet? I also see Inco and Newfoundland are naming their negotiating teams.

Maybe FT will have a news update soon.
