The actual physical shipments of physical gold from one country to another wasn't done on a daily basis, it was done from time to time. Taking the physical gold out of one vault and transporting it to another country caused price shocks that were due solely to that fact.

Just to be perfectly clear, are you saying that the difficulty of daily operations of the gold standard were the primary reason it was dropped?
