George Bush did his job.

America is the greatest force of capitalism on this planet Capitalism and conservation ideals have incompatible tenets. EU and Japan characteristically are more conservation leaning - this reflects the character of their people who are more conservation minded.

Europeans and Japanese would argue that we have a lack of history to be able to be responsible. This may be true since the common prerequisite to be an American is that at some point in history we or our forefathers left a decaying Old World in search of fertile grounds and new beginnings. Americans are being asked to abandon the traits that have made them successful.

How can a country with vast natural resources empathize with countries with so little (ie. Japan)?

Americas F*ck the world answer is not so surprising. We are capitalists and individualist. We amass wealth for ourselves and that is what drives us and our economy. GW's position reflects more the realities of who we are than what we would like to think ourselves as being - we are not responsible world citizens... Would you give up your car and carpool? How about selling your house in the suburbs and move to a crowded city where you can walk or take a metro?
