If you read the thread header, the methodology is clearly outlined:

Several portfolios have been set up to track the valuation changes of our selections based on hypothetical investments of $10,000 in each component at prior year's closing prices.

Since that seems to be confusing, please allow me to clarify. Changes in the value of the GKI2000 portfolio are tracked against the closing prices of its components on 12/29/00.

The charter of this forum is to identify companies that have sustainable competitive advantages over a period consistent with long term investing. If you have any ideas along those lines, feel free to contribute to the discussion.
