Kevin:

"I see this sort of incident more and more. Sometimes it is cost conscious health care administrators, sometimes it is overworked doctors and nurses."

Add the list:

management almost as bad as government and true indifference on the part of many in the industry.

My wife works at a local hospital and it is inconceivable to me that the people who run this hospital have any brains. They make 100+ salaries and couldn't manage a McDonalds let alone a hospital.

Recently, I was a patient in a hospital and I was to be given a pain killer every four hours. On one occassion, when my pill was due, no one came. I used the buzzer several times and still no one came. 20 minutes later I was still buzzing and in real pain. Fortunately, my wife arrived and went out to the front desk to see what was causing the delay. It turned out that all of the nurses were participating in a shower for one of the nurses. This explanation was given as though their conduct was perfectly acceptable and I was somehow being boorish for insisting that someone bring me the pill.

I guess things are bad all over. But today nurses make 75K a year and we are entitled to better.
