re: REAL competition in the local loop.

The local loop had its chance in the last four-five years. It didn't take. The local loop didn't embrace any technology that would make a viable competitor in this new telecoms environment.

The local loop was ice in the middle of the desert. Everyone wanted. Today, there is only wet sand. Local loop's time has passed.

Would anyone in the near future put a single dollar in a medium that has caused so many losses? I wouldn't. The legacy copper has been laying dormant with its owners just prepared to extract every single cent of it until one day they are disconnected forever. The same way trams' tracks were left behind.

Remember the 40's and 50's pictures with poles with wires in between cities? Those were carrier lines connecting phone exchanges. After the war microwave came along. The poles and wires vanished form the landscape.

Wireless technologies -3, 4, 5, NG- will do away with the wires for local loop and competition are a contradiction in terms.
