It makes it sound like our President is lying to us. Q: Has demand increased in California that much more than in the rest of the country? A: Yes. For the past decade, California has grown rapidly and new industry has developed to the point where the state’s electricity use is increasing by between two and three percent annually – nearly triple the national average. Q: Why did the shortage begin so suddenly last summer? A: This past year, drought conditions in the Pacific Northwest decreased the amount of energy hydroelectric generators could produce.
