I started online at 2400 baud with GEnie when it was $4.95 unlimited time after 6pm (all day weekends). When they went to the metered model I quit and dabbled a little with AOL, then quit (too expensive). Then last year I found paradise with an ISP for $15 and got myself educated with the WWW (took this dolt awhile to get started).

I agree with all that you said (maybe slightly disagree that we just don't get it and that we think AOL meter people are dolts).

All I'm saying is that once one realizes that an ISP gives a lot more for way less money, then you're hooked. The problem is in the realization -- some people just don't get it.

I think of AOL as "network" charging cable rates and WWW as "cable" charging network rates.

However, I value your opinion, especially as you seem to be right, and you are perhaps long on AOL stock?
