Re: "I have 22 guns and 10,000 rounds"

Story No. 1: I have a friend (owner of a successful small business) who recently purchased 100-plus acres in the hills of Kentucky not far from the big river. On the property is an early 19th-century home which he is lovingly restoring. First week he's at his house ... even before Welcome Wagon arrives ... he's inundated by middle-age men in pickup trucks seeking permission to kill animals with firearms on his property ... presumably in season ... but who knows. His reply to all of 'em is brief: "No hunting, no guns on my property. See you later." When the boys ask why, he tells 'em. One of his siblings is 6 feet under because he or she was on the wrong end of a bullet. The boys don't say much after that.

Story No. 2: When my kid was in Cub Scouts, he camped occasionally on some property down in the hills of Gallatin County, Kentucky, not far from the big river. Landowner used to have some cattle on the property, but not no more. Turned out to be a losing proposition. Lost too many cows every year during deer season. Hard to say whether the good ol' boys just blasted 'em for sport or whether they genuinely mistook 'em for deer. In any event, he's out of the cattle business now.
