Clinton's timing may have had something to do with the fact that the scientific evidence of the carcinogenic properties of water at the old 50 ppm was in, the 10 ppm standard had been adopted by European nations and the World Health Organization, and the EPA was facing 7 lawsuits.

You're right, we should be leading the world in environmental standards, not trailing it. We should certainly not be a rogue polluting state, as the Bush administration seems to prefer.

Whitman was pretty good on environmental issues in New Jersey. Now she's the Toulouse-Lautrec of the new administration -- just cut off at the knees.
