Tim,

Venus is hot because of greenhouse gasses. Period.

Even though Venus is farther from the sun than Mercury it is a heck of a lot hotter. The Starship Sabatini must keep a safe distance from Venus’s atmosphere. The reason why Venus is so hot is because of the greenhouse gasses on Venus. Heat cannot escape from the atmosphere. This reaction can be seen on earth at times. E.g. In the winter it is usually a colder day when there is no overcast clouds, but when cloudy like Venus the temperature rises because the heat cannot escape.
