Thin ice, Ron, I'm afraid. With this argument, any of the following are 'gross polluters'. People who:
1) Drive cars, ride in buses, trolley cars, airplanes, anything with an engine. 2) Use electricity or heating. 3) Produce any garbage, or use anything with excess packaging. 4) Use any industrial products, created through any sort of industrial process.
It is certainly a balance between environmentalism and quality of life. Remember that survey a number of years ago, where 90% of the people considered themselves to be 'environmentalists'? Most people think they are doing the right thing; what they really mean is that they believe they have struck the right balance between preserving the world and being able to live a sane life.
So, to point the finger at myself, I violate all of the above. But, we (my family and I) try to make sure that we reduce our waste of resources as much as possible. I think this is the balance that most Americans are striving for.
I have followed the debate on CO2, and don't have any opinions to offer. Interesting stuff, to be sure. |
