Dennis, my take on xDSL is that the RBOC's want it and are not willing to give it away at any price. The news today from UMG that dry copper will not be resold, and the fact that 9 other companies will not resell dry copper, means that a good old doneybrook for bandwidth is heating up. The losers may be those trying to acquire bandwidth, like the ISP's and CLEC's. The winners are those with infrastructure that has been upgraded. Also xDSL is a last mile technology, and at best is an interim technology leading to VDSL. These technologies need fiber backbones, and with next years announcements of all optical networks with cross connects for metropolitan areas, fiber will be everywhere.
