Michael: I understand nuclear power enough to know that its byproducts are used in nuclear weapons, and its radioactive waste is a serious threat to our environment. I use to be a nuclear weapons guard in the Navy and always found it interesting that so many felt they were so safe, yet we would have a nuc bang against our ship as they were loaded and we had trouble w/ the cabling, etc. Then there was the massive ship fire which nearly blew up Japan. Yes, I know eneough not to believe in words of technological "safety", especially with something as complex as a nuclear power plant. We still can't make cars completely safe, even after billions and billions poured into research, and a decade of improvements. To think a nuclear power plant could somehow be protected and completely safe even when we get an 8-9 earthquake... well, that's pure foolishness. To think the radioactive waste can be transported safely on trains and trucks is even more bizarre.
