Precisely. Which makes that outcome highly unlikely, but it could get dicey in the meantime. The situation is more serious than it first appeared. You may have read this, it's Mrs. Peel's response to your post:

It appears as though the Chinese intercepted an unarmed US plane in international airspace and forced it to land in China on threat of destruction. This is the sort of thing that can get the bullets- -and worse- -flying.

It would appear this is part of the Chinese drive to force re-unification of Taiwan. I think the US should make it perfectly to the Chinese that if they wish to take Taiwan by force, they will have to go through us.
