>> Nokia Scores Millions In 3G Network Deals

Wireless Week

Nokia today announces two contracts to provide third-generation wireless networks in Australia and Great Britain worth close to $1 billion. Nokia will be the sole supplier of a Cable & Wireless Optus 3G network in Australia, including the supply of a 3G radio access network for both W-CDMA and EDGE platforms.

The Optus deal in Australia is for an end-to-end network that covers applications, charging, security, network management and other functions. The contract is worth roughly $434 million, and follows the completion of Australia's 3G wireless spectrum auction last month.

Separately, Nokia signed a three-year deal to supply core network gear to Hutchison 3G U.K. Ltd., which won a third-generation wireless license in last year's $36 billion auction in Great Britain. The main-network supply deal is worth about $441 million. <<
