Half the real estate trading a $1 million plus here is traceable to the 408 area code. When Japan had their bubble, real estate tripled in a few years, the got cut in have after the bubble burst. California had been stoking a new run-up in prices -- draw your own conclusions about what happens next. Lots of people have "doubled their money" in the last year or so on real estate here -- but they need to remember, you only double your money if you sell.
