Well, all I think this exchange shows is that statistics can be used to prove or disprove anything :)

The authors cites that murder rates have declined in these "shall issue" states. However, he fails to note that murder rates have declined overall in nearly every state. He does not break out a difference between the rate of decline in "shall issue" and other states.

The Arkansas example may have been applicable back then, but with the shootings springing up all over the country, it loses its validity.

He also shrugs off the country-by-country comparison, which clearly shows a coorelation.

Certainly, there are many other factors that influence the overall crime statistics. Like I said, I was saying that these figures prove that more guns cause more crime/murders (although they appear to do so). I was merely disproving the opposite; that more guns make less crime/murder.

I won't mind seeing the data behind the analysis, but I guess I'd have to buy the book. :)
