Bush isn't being isolationist. Nor is the policy of not dictating to other countries but not being dictated to by them arrogant. He disagrees with the positions of some of our allies but not having US policy determined by Brussels or Paris is not ignoring our allies. "Misunderstanding" is fairly meaningless without more context. A military build up by the US makes war less likely unless the US tries to throw its power around, in which case it is the throwing the power around not the buildup that causes any war that results.

Tim, in the last few weeks, it seems Bush is going out of his way to annoy both allies and former enemies alike. You can minimize these actions all you want but that's not the reaction over seas. Now, if his independent stance was for a good cause, I could respect it....however, I suspect he's hoping to agitate everyone as much as possible encourage negative reactions and then show that as evidence that we need star wars. In the same way he has put us into a recession so he can get his tax cut before the data is there to support such a claim.

Of course, he doesn't want to push his star wars program to hard until he has the tax cut in hand. But its hard for him....poppy wants it so bad.
