Merger fever may be catching in the semi-equipment group. With today's takeout of Brooktree by Rockwell, ASYT rose 15% and PRIA rose 11%, both presumably in sympathy with BTRE. Last week's announcement that Danaher had acquired 10% of Tylan General and that DHR was seeking a meeting with Tylan's Board to discuss "maximizing shareholder value" also stoked the fire. Tylan General rose 35% last Thursday and Friday, and will rise a great deal more when Danaher offers a fair price for it.

With S&P stocks at high valuations and low growth, semiconductor equipment companies will continue to look very attractive, if not to investors, then as acquisitions.
