I am in Hangzhou Shangri-la Hotel now. I realize that I am a French Creole Chinese Trinidadian posting on a rough and tumble US based discussion thread <ggg>.

It is difficult to tell truth from fiction now. We will simply have to wait. The plane story runs as follows from out here ...

US planes routinely violate Chinese airspace on recon missions. China left them alone as had no particular reason to do otherwise.

This particular E3 did same, and was greeted by two fighters commanding it to land at nearby military airport.

E3 tried to make a run, pumped one fighter, crashed the plane and killed its pilot.

Second fighter ordered E3 to land immediately or be blown out of the sky.

Had the E3 been "in the right" it could easily have headed to Vietnam or HK where retrieval by US would have been easy.

Now, the only issue remains is who gave the order to pump the Chinese fighter within Chinese airspace, and thus questionings and plane boarding ... it is now a matter of murder investigation. Cannot use "it was an old map" rationale this time. This is not simply a matter of a plane making an emergency landing to be returned "in accordance with international norm" ala CNN spin.

The plane has been boarded and its blackbox will be examined, or tempered with, as the case may be.

Taiwan and China are so closely integrated economically already, unification is happening now. The symbolism of eventual flag switch will be only that. The most sophisticated piece of weaponry to be sold to Taiwan can only be delivered 7 years from now. Long wait, and by then, old weapons.

As far as war between the US and China is concerned, do not see it. Any HK share wobble would have been a buying opportunity if not for the general weakened state of world equity markets.

Proxy wars had been fought twice already, in Korea and IndoChina (most US pilots downed in Laos and many over N. Vietnam were actually downed by PRC troops).
