Comments on Lundin Oil and Sudan by Carl Bildt, the UN Secretary General's
Special Envoy for the Balkans and former Swedish prime minister
Source: bildt.net

Swedish media has been in a frenzy over Lundin and oil in Sudan lately.
No accusation has been to grave not to be forwarded in certain media.
It has centered on accusations of a "scored earth" policy around a road Lundin has builr in southern Sudan.

Gradually, facts are coming to the surface.
There are no signs of a "scored earth" policy in this area.
Apart from the fact that the local farmers burn the high grass every year.

The road in question has been drawn to avoíd existing villages.
And now people are moving towards the road in question. Not from it, as has been alleged.
A recent report in Swedish TV was very clear on this.

And that people in the area want the oil companies in general - as well as Lundin - to stay.

I remain committed to trying to combine the humanitarian principles of the UN and others with the modern
influence of foreign investment in the exploration of the energy resources.

In the long run, this is the road to both peace and prosperity for Sudan.
No other seems to be available.
