On pc's being extinct.. you're confusing innovation and product cycles with market penetration and Jurasic Park.
The concept of information processing is very new.. the human/machine interface is continuing to evolve through many incarnations, the desktop box being the equivalent of the family car. It will go faster, allow more baggage and provide more luxuries within one enclosure. Other more specialized devices will augment rather than replace the pc... the pc will integrate lessor appliances in its forward evolution (tv, tele/video station, pc, internet device, game station, central control for other appliances and information server).
Product penetration has slowed, but there's still millions on the planet who want one, and theres considerable business for replacement and upgrade. A more mature industry, with resources and a future. CPQ, DELL, and a host of others will be around and thrive via cycles of innovation, because there's a need being met, and new needs and solutions being created.
