The washout thus far has been quite strong, needless to say. But, it could well have a ways to go. I have been keeping my powder dry. I'm very interested in your opinion as to how you would divide $100,000 among the stocks that you follow. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. A couple caveats: 1) my entire focus is on next-generation communications, with fiber optics the biggest allocation, 2) I’m not a financial advisor and would never ever purport to know how to plan someone else’s portfolio, and 3) what I like is based on how I see the industry progressing and how much risk I’m willing to take.
Pure-play fiber optics (or near pure-play in the case of GLW) ALAO JDSU NEWP GLW
Transport, switching, and major vendors: CIEN NT ALA SI JNPR
Communications chips: AMCC
Longer-term fiber optics (tunable lasers) NUFO
DSL (heavy emphasis on European and Asian markets): VRTA
Long-shots: SCMR (great technology, great management, lots of cash --- a sitting duck to be taken out ) CORV and TCM(both for ultra long-haul --- which I believe will succeed)
There are many other companies I like, but don’t follow closely. I believe the ones I've listed have long-term staying power.
