Without any specifics...many internet companies who, in headier times, gave services and various "stuff" away for free (stock quotes, email accounts, webpages, news, etc.) to get more "eyeballs" or "hits" (or whatever newfangled metric was in vogue at that time) are now feeling pressure - by virtue of the return of more conventional valuation methods - to attempt to turn those former freebies into producers of revenue streams.

Anyone who, in any context, has ever had to retract a service...let alone charge a fee for one that was previously offered free of charge...knows that this is at best a humbling task. If I were to speculate, I'd bet that these attempts will, for the most part, be futile.
