I would agree that the Middle East presents a potential security threat. Russia presents a significantly larger threat. Both threats are more amenable to political and economic intervention than military intervention, at least at their current stages.

The current demonization of China is, I believe, being conducted as an ideological exercise, not as a response to a credible security threat. I see no reason to launch a full-blown military program to contain a power that has neither the military capacity nor any demonstrable inclination to expand.

What do you expect China to do that will threaten our security?
