Smart,

I wrote you a post some time ago (#956) which I assumed you didn't see as you may have been out of town, but I'd like to hear your opinions of TI's ASIC business (gate array and mixed signal). They have done very well in the HDD business and I see they announced new products today directed at the HDD business. I can readily say that 10% of TI's total business is related to HDD (including DSP). Don't you think their stock price desrves some credit for their leadership position in ASIC? This is one of the things that makes them apples to Intel's oranges, because Intel does very little HDD business (only flash and some micros). They are definitely technology leaders in HDD and a proven track record of profit and increasing and ongoing business. Also (I'm sure this was discussed before my time), the acquisition of Silicon Systems brought some experience and prestige in the OEM world.

Anyway, this issue doesn't seem to get talked about much what with DRAM's and DSP's and all, but it is a cash cow for them.

Opinions?

Regards
