Amkor Technology Inc. (AMKR) expects to spend about $250 million in capital expenditures in 2001, according to the company's annual report filed Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The capital expenditures exclude any capital requirements of the companies it expects to acquire in 2001.

The company's capital expenditures in 1999 totaled $480 million.

According to the filing, the expenditures will be used primarily to support the development of the company's Flip Chip, System-in-Package, optic and high-end ball grid array capabilities, and to build out additional manufacturing capacity at its K4 complex in Korea.

Amkor Technology, based in Westchester, Pa., provides semiconductor packaging and test services.
