NOK ranked: world's most effective company. Nokia Tops INSEADs Survey Of Worlds "Fittest" Companies PARIS 2001-04-04 (Dow Jones)- Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia Corp. (NOK) has topped a list of the worlds most effective companies in a new survey by French business school INSEAD. The report, "Measuring Competitive Fitness of global Firms 2001", put Nokia in top place based on a a measure of 12 "fundamental capabilities that influence the effectiveness of a firm in its markets", according to the report. The survey, which included the 15 largest companies from North America and Europe in each of eight sectors, also put Nokia at the top of the computer and electronics sector. Frances Renault (F.RNA) came out tops in the automobile sector, while BNP Paribas (F.BNP) was the highest-ranked financial services group in the survey. The survey also measured firms "e-business capability", which INSEAD defined as "a firms ability to exploit electronic technologies in all aspects of its operations". Oracle Corp. (ORCL) led the pack in this category, followed by International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) and Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ).
