<< With the introduction of the 1.7 Gig P4 Intel will desperately try once again to significantly ramp P4 sales. But once again with these price cuts, AMD is closing the market for the P4. Thereby AMD is keeping the high end of the market completely for itself. And this will do wonders for AMD's general reputation. >>

Even without the price cuts, P4 is still priced out of the market. The processor is becoming a minor part of the cost. Consider a 1 ghz ddr mid range system. You'll probably pay more for the motherboard, ram, videoboard, monitor, and cd writer then the processor. (okay, i unbalanced it a little by using a 1 ghz instead of a 1.3 ghz, but if i were building a system for someone I'd tell em to use a 1 ghz). P4s big killer comes in with high MB cost, and high ram cost IMO. If they get the motherboards under $100 and an SD ram chipset, then AMD's pricing won't be able to effect them because we'll only be talking a very small percentage of total system price.

My 2 biggest AMD fears right now are 1) Flash totally falls a part and their other customers start fighting over teh contracts which get mired down into law suits. 2) P4 has an SDRAM chipset come out and even though the performance is horrible, no one cares because there are no apps which really point it out, and it becomes the generally accepted high end processor.
