NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) refuted Wednesday published reports that it's behind schedule to ship some software development tools for its Xbox game console.
"Since last September, we've been telling developers that we'd deliver the beta Xbox Development Kits units before (the Electronic Entertainment Expo) and we're still on schedule," said John O'Rouke, director of sales and marketing at Microsoft, in a prepared statement.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, is the premiere computer and video gaming conference. This year it is being held from May 16 to 19 in Los Angeles.
O'Rouke added that the Redmond, Wash., giant is "right on schedule" to deliver hardware and software for an Xbox launch in the fall of 2001.

The Financial Times reported that Microsoft had fallen behind schedule in shipments of the beta version of its Xbox development tools kits. The FT reported that Microsoft had told third-party game developers to expect the beta kit in March. An FT spokesman wasn't immediately available.
