I don't think any religion ever claimed God was intelligent, just powerful. As far as evolution being a self-contained process not even modern evolutionary science claims that. Evolution is contingent upon the slightest push of external forces, such as climate, altitude etc... Either way, God or no God, revel in the miracle that is your life and let the funeral procession of science and religion affect it not.
