It is mostly for internal Chinese consumption plus they want concessions from the US regarding Taiwan ...... very simple ............ China will milk it to the end and they know they can do it.

GW Bush acted worse than a liberal sissy. There are enough diplomatic channels to get the right message TV is not the medium.

......... and it may well be that the US wants an dragged out story for not obvious reasons
