Doug,

I think the relative attractiveness of Athlon vs. P4 improved a lot within last 2 weeks. We got a 133 MHz increase in speed, almost $50 reduction from the old high end chip - 1.2 GHz to the current high end chip - 1.33 GHz. This alone is a major move. Combine it with increased availability and falling prices of DDR motherboards, and Micron's reduction of the price of DDR from $100+ to $60 for 128 MB and from almost $300 to $100 for 256 MB. This is a $60+ advantage vs. 2 sticks of 64 MB RDRAM or $150 advantage over 2 sticks of 128 MB RDRAM.

If P4 was not very attractive 2 weeks ago, it is much further behind today. I wonder if Intel will finally fess up in their CC and tells truth that P4 has been a huge disappointment.

Joe
